ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL X-RAYS:

- Less radiation is necessary
- No developing time; instant viewing
- Zoom, measure, and colorize x-rays
- Store the x-rays on your computer file for future reference
- Speed up dental claims with modem transfer of x-rays
- Capability for virtual conferencing
Safer….
Get necessary care without unnecessary radiation.
The digital x-ray requires 90% less radiation
than conventional film x-ray. As x-rays are an invaluable aspect of a proper diagnosis, we have taken every measure to ensure this procedure is as safe as possible. Our patients appreciate our effort in making radiography safer for our patients.
Better…..
As accurate as conventional x-rays — and reveals things film can’t.
We are now able to magnify 300x its normal size to see cavities at their earliest stages. We are also able to manipulate images by correcting the contrast, colorization, and create negatives to improve imaging.

Smarter…..
The digital x-ray is also better for our environment. There are no hazardous wastes created from developer and fixer. There is no lead backing on the x-ray films. And this technology is covered by most insurance companies.
Faster…..
More time treating, less time processing.
There is no waiting for conventional processing because the images are viewable immediately. This allows our doctors and staff members to spend more time with our patients in discussing their dental needs than preparing the x-rays for viewing.
Reliable…..
The digital x-ray is stored in the patients computer record and can be viewed at any time.
Your x-rays can be sent to your insurance company or a specialist if necessary. With this technology, virtual conferencing is possible, so you never have to leave our office to see the specialist.

What are the benefits of a dental X-ray examination?
Many diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen when your dentist examines your mouth. An X-ray examination may reveal:
- small areas of decay between the teeth;
- infections in the bone;
- abscesses or cysts;
- developmental abnormalities;
- some types of tumors.
Finding and treating dental problems at an early stage can save time, money and unnecessary discomfort. It can detect damage to oral structures not visible during a regular exam. If you have a hidden tumor, radiographs may even help save your life.
How do dental x-rays compare to other sources of radiation?
We are exposed to radiation every day from various sources, including outer space, minerals in the soil, and appliances in our homes (like smoke detectors and television screens).
| SourceEstimated exposure (MSV*) | |
|---|---|
| Dental radiographs | |
| Bitewings (4 films) | 0.038 |
| Full-mouth series (about 19 films) |
0.150 |
| Medical radiographs | |
| Lower GI series | 4.060 |
| Upper GI series | 2.440 |
| Chest | 0.080 |
| Average radiation from outer space In Denver, CO (per year) | 0.510 |
| Average radiation in the U.S. from Natural sources (per year) | 3.000 |

*A millisievert (mSV) is a unit of measure that allows for some comparison between radiation sources that expose the entire body (such as natural background radiation) and those that only expose a portion of the body (such as radiographs.)
